This is the APMM statement on the situation of migrants during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Philippine Government has taken upon itself to deploy Filipino workers as early as the 1970s through the Labor Export Policy program. It started in the pre-Martial Law days of the 1970s due to economic crisis.
Held in Jakarta, the conference gathered 52 participants coming from 38 organizations and institutions in 11 countries and country regions forging cooperation and partnership supporting the struggle of migrants for human rights, justice and decent work.
Migrante International has successfully conducted SUMA 2017: The State of Filipino Migrants and their Families under the Duterte Administration last 7 June, 2017 at the UP College of Law, University of the Philippines Diliman. The event was also commemorated as Migrants Day, which is on its 22nd commemoration since the creation of the Migrants Day Act of 1995.
We gathered under the auspices of the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA), on the occasion of its 60th anniversary and on the convening of the 2017 Asia Mission Conference. The consultation was organized in cooperation with the Asia Pacific Mission for Migrants (APMM), the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) and the Myanmar Council of Churches (MCC).
With the theme “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing Asia-Pacific”, the forum aimed to serve a venue for dialogue on (1) Regional perspectives on the implementation, follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including in depth review of the theme and SDGs: 1, 2, 3, 5, 9 and 14 and 17, the cluster of goals to be discussed by the High-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF) in 2017; and (2) Strengthening implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific, including the consideration of a draft regional road map for implementing the 2030 Agenda in Asia and the Pacific, with a view to strengthening implementation efforts.
